Driving too fast?

My driving instructor always tells me I'm driving too fast. It actually doesn't feel that fast. I'm constantly looking at the road and often miss the speed limit signs. What can I do to better estimate my speed? I can't keep looking at the speedometer.

I’m looking at the road all the time and I’m watching the signs for speed often.

You can’t just look at the road. But you have to look at the whole situation. These include traffic signs, including your speedometer and your exterior mirrors.

Get a glimpse.

I can’t keep looking at the tacho

“Thou shalt not look anywhere.” I want you to watch 95% of the time ahead of you. So the road, the road and also what is possibly above the road and comes in the distance.

And the remaining 5% consist of short glances (stretches!) on the tacho and in the mirrors. Just look at it, then look forward again and think about what you just saw on the tacho or in the mirror.

You’ll have to keep an eye on the tacho and the shields.

This is what you need to have in mind when driving the car, not only the road but also other road users, the signs of the happening behind one and much more
