Zalando package returned by itself?

If anyone knows anything about this or has experienced something similar, I would appreciate some advice.

On December 19, 2024, I ordered an item from Zalando as a Christmas present. I knew it was quite late, at the last minute, but I wanted to give it a try anyway because, according to the order confirmation, the package should have been delivered between December 21 and 27. I had hoped it would arrive by December 21. If necessary, I could have simply given it as a gift a few days after Christmas; that wouldn't have been so bad. However, I then checked the order on December 27 and it said that the package was returned on December 24. I'm wondering how that can be? I hadn't even received the package yet, and I could track where it was in the order. Was it automatically returned to an intermediary because of the holidays? I didn't cancel anything or anything like that.
