Xbox Series S graphics errors in games?

Hello,

I'm having graphics issues on my Xbox Series S and have tried a lot of things, but nothing has worked. I'd like to try to figure out whether it's a hardware issue or just a settings issue.

The Xbox is connected to the monitor “Dell G2724D / 1440p” via an HDMI 2.1 cable.

The bug occurs in virtually all games, but it's most noticeable and annoying in Warzone. In the images, for example, you can see that the weapon is pixelated. The skin is normally "matte."
There's also a "flicker" on the bridge and the tracks. Buildings, etc., are very blurry, especially from a distance.

One guess is that it could be due to the resolution/scaling or monitor settings. I've already tried all these combinations. The Xbox is set to 1440p at 120 Hz. HDR10 and Auto HDR are enabled.
If I switch to 1080p at 60 Hz or turn off HDR, the problem still exists.

When I connect my laptop to the monitor, the image looks significantly better, in my opinion, even though the graphics are worse when gaming (it's only an RTX 2060). Unfortunately, I don't have a second console to test whether it's a hardware issue.

what I have already tried:

  • New HDMI cable
  • Console disconnected from power (power reset)
  • Console reset (but the games were not uninstalled)
  • Tried different monitor settings and resolutions

Does anyone have any idea what it could be? Is the Series S perhaps simply too weak to display such games properly? Has anyone else had the same problem?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards

Daniel

First time, your 2060 is clearly stronger than the performance of the S. The graphics card came out only a year before and cost a whole piece more than the entire console. They already hang this generation back anyway, and the S is much more blurred.

Edit: I’m stupid, just see you talking about a laptop, so it’s just the 2060 mobile. I take back the “more clearly” but it should be a bit better yet:D

To your question, quite sure there is any upscaling + sharpening active in the background so that the game is even playable.

On the PC you can of course do it, on the console I don’t think, or you’ll be looking at it. Unfortunately, it will have to live with it – a defect of the console is quite sure not.

If you ever find “weapons look grainy” googlest you find some with the problem. Mostly it is recommended to disable upscaling (FSR/DLSS) or to play around with the settings of it or the shadows and reflections. Unfortunately, you are very limited on the console.

The Series X is comparable to the PS5, the Series S is the heavily relegated budget version of it. To be honest, it’s a miracle that current titles are still on it (or Microsoft forces developers simply, otherwise they can’t offer it in the store).

If the same game on the same console looks really better, I could either imagine that the recording somehow conceals the effect or that there really is a way to disable it. I don’t know him, but I can be good.
