Xanax?

Xanax is the US brand name for the active ingredient Alprazolam. In Germany the drug Tafil, also generics are available. Alprazolam is a drug from the group of benzodiazepines which is primarily used in severe psychiatric anxiety. Due to the high dependence potential of benzodiazepines, treatment with alprazolam should take place as short and as low dosed as possible.

But to your question: both alprazolam (Xanax) and alcohol affect the neurotransmitter GABA and affect the central nervous system (CNS). They are mutually potent in their effect but also in their side effects. The problem is that mixed consumption also increases the damping effect on the CNS. There is a risk of potentially life-threatening respiratory depression.

In principle, substances with a damping effect on the CNS should not be combined. These include in particular benzodiazepines (such as alprazolam/xanax), alcohol and opioids.
