Write a story about a disabled child?

Hello there!

I personally come into contact with people with disabilities (mental and mobility) in my daily life and now I want to write a story about it. I also saw a clip from a film in which a boy like this was teased and excluded. The whole thing really bothered me. I notice in my everyday life that such people are often misunderstood or excluded simply because they don't conform to the "norm." I find this very sad. It motivates me even more to write a story that shows the whole thing.

So, first, I need a name for the main character. I'm not entirely sure whether it's a boy or a girl. In any case, the main protagonist is very friendly, easily hurt, smarter than some people think, hardworking, and tries to please everyone. He/she is about 11-13 years old. If you have any other good character traits, feel free to add them.

If you have ideas for scenes in the story, I would be happy to receive inspiration.

I'm also happy about character ideas or other additions😉

Feel free to write what you think about the topic or whether you have contact with people affected.

I look forward to answers 🤗

Hmm, I don’t know if my answer helps you because I have little experience with children. But you can do something helpful.

.

I like things like in the video here. If it is said “you can’t do it” and then the person thinks “but I can do it” and find a way to create it.

https://youtu.be/IocLkk3aYlk?si=04UTz3QXL_rOP7Vz

I also find everyday problems important to illuminate. There are some youtube channels that deal with it. Do not think about healthy people at all. Zb how to brush your teeth, the circumstances to go to the toilet, how hard it is to find a shop without steps, handy and helpful people, etc.

I work with people with disabilities, and five things have been particularly impressed…

1. Being obstructed doesn’t mean being nice. I interviewed someone who told the many think disabled people are the bully victims, the helpless. But he was one of the bulls himself.

Two. The problems and how easy it is handled. An acquaintance has no arms and no legs. I wanted to help him get food and also wanted to offer further support, but she just meant casual that she could. And I was completely shocked by how good she was on her own and with what self-confidence she was dealing with it. She had to eat like an animal, but through her radiation it seemed completely normal and manual. And there are also zb online videos from a man without legs, who still walks, just because he thinks this is fun and you always find solutions.

3. How much they can enjoy life. Of course not all, it depends on the attitude as with every person. But I met many who rested completely in themselves, were happy and do not worry about how others can think about them. Zb was at a celebration where many were with disabilities. They danced out (if many people didn’t know it was), they had a lot of fun. Healthy people often need liters of alcohol for a similarly beautiful evening.

4. On the other hand, the uncertainties and dependencies that some torment. Some of the patients refuse to leave the building for fear of overthrowing, laughing, being helpless. Some were alcoholic because they were so desperate for their fate. Many refuse to have a relationship or sex for fear of rejection. Some nurses were also real NoGo’s, zb they veiled the patient a drink in the evening so they don’t have to go to the toilet. Or the door was left open when they washed the body. These humiliations are unforgivable.

Five. Small things are much more valued. When you walk around with them completely normal, no barbarity has to touch them. Or also experiences that we feel as normal. Zb has taken a colleague from me a boy who is physically severely restricted to the train. He was so happy about what I feel as annoying circumstances, and in the end it was the most beautiful day of his life. I almost cried.

I am also physically disabled I find good what you plan there. The best thing you have is a female and a male main person who both will be faced with other problems.I would be very interested as it is for the other sex and where exactly the differences lie. I’m looking forward to your report.

One could count, for example, how hard it is to bend as a girl when what falls down there is the feminity in the way I know from a friend of mine.Another problem are high pavements that make one cross the road difficult to impossible in the wheelchair.Other that it is also possible to fly the disabled with in an airplane.Oder that it is possible to climb with the help of mountains. Also bike goes in the wheelchair Many wheelchair users have weight problems either they are very thin or very thick. Some also have a rough spine and have to undergo surgery and then carry a corset as I speak from experience. Many also have difficulties with fine motors or with saliva flow as well as with the talking problems and then need a therapy.Leider is also so that many have a short service life.
