Work laptop university (computer science) recommendations?
Does anyone have any laptop recommendations for an information technology student, or what I should look for? Is there anything usable available for under €600 these days?
I'd use the laptop primarily for on-the-go work, lectures, slides, etc. The focus will likely be on security/AI (data-intensive stuff). For the latter, I've done a lot of work with Python and parallelization, at least in my bachelor's thesis, although for truly data-intensive research, I work on clusters anyway. However, it should be possible to run smaller scripts.
So I don’t need crazy graphics.
I don't know much about technology, but Lenovo at least has alleged student discounts: https://www.lenovo.com/de/edu/deeducation/de/d/university-student-laptops/
Can I get one of the cheaper ones, or should I look somewhere else entirely?
Thanks for the reply. I did it as a distance learning course because I didn't feel like commuting, but otherwise, it's a completely normal (elite) university. 16GB of RAM and a processor sound pretty helpful. How can I check the battery life of used equipment? It's also hard to hear the volume when you're not there.
I would even rather spend more, for example for the Ideapad 5 Pro 14AHP9

Powerful hardware and a large battery for on the go
Well, for your application, you can use any crappy machine. Just make sure it's not the €120 Aldi laptop; that's junk.
As soon as it comes to AI and the like, you can do it on your cluster anyway—at least that's how it is at my university. Everyone has an account, and you can connect via VNC. That means
16GB RAM,
I would like to have ≥ 6 cores.
Ryzen 5 would be nice.
Lenovo is rather expensive, with Huawei you usually get better value for money
I got my Matebook 16 for €599 (discounted from €1200 to €699 – €100 student discount)
I'm a fan of Dell. IIRC, they also offer student discounts. The consumer series (Inspiron) should be sufficient. But I'd go for at least 16GB of RAM. And of course, at least a Core i3/Ryzen 3, although that might be a bit weak for really data-intensive stuff. Whether that's compatible with your budget is another question.
You can usually only get Win Pro with the business Inspiron/Vostro/etc.
Not all notebooks have a built-in LAN port. It can be annoying, even if USB adapters are available.

was meinst du mit ” Und natürlich mind.
