How do they earn enough money on such large stud farms?

For example Marbach or Bonhomme

They all breed, but breeding alone isn't enough to earn enough money to maintain such large stud farms with so many horses and pay so many employees, is it?

I'm currently watching a documentary about Marbach and I find it really interesting 🙂

auuseits family usually have a next job

So if a horse farmer has to do a side job next to his normal working life, then something goes wrong

All studs in public hands are financed by the state.

Real private studs, almost always have cross-financing. Bzw isn’t really.

There hats always Agriculture Holdings are almost exclusively self-sufficient and achieve the absolute predominant economic success only through the breeding business. Training of foreign horses, riders or einstall operations must not contribute significantly to success.

Everything else, are simply snowy riding facilities, where it is also bred.

The rearing is sold, the stallions offered for breeding (decktaxe), the tournament horses earned profits and many studs also form talented young horses against money.

It is also possible to earn horse riding lessons, courses, auctions, einstall operations or research in cooperation with clinics.

It is also necessary to say that these giant studs have relatively low expenditures due to scale effects and may also be promoted, as horses are also a cultural asset.

Nevertheless, studs are dying more and more. Many breeders throw the towel because the demand falls and you don’t deserve more.

They usually earn a lot of money over deck tax, e-installs, trainings and rides and, of course, participation in competitions with prize money. From a certain prestige it is worth it. The “Stars” of the scene also often give courses or lessons. You have to be able to afford it as a normal mortal person, but for many it is quite interesting.

Well, well-known foals bring a 5-digit sum, riding hours are expensive, sesame also, as well as adjustment costs or rental floors. In Germany, there is nothing really good in connection with horses.

Germany has nothing to do with horses, which is really cheap.

Many farms are horrific!

Not enough. They’re subsidized.

Surely you can make a lot of money. In addition, there are also promotional pots according to certain criteria and the horses go in high sports, earning high prize money there.

I just want to correct your statement for the sake of accuracy. As a jumper, I know very well in our sport and can assure you that it is not the tournaments you deserve. It is the performance at the various tournaments, which increase the value of the horse and can thus be told a higher sum when selling. Furthermore, money is earned by renting the boxes and preparing foreign horses and yet we need the help of various sponsors in professional sports.

And for the sake of accuracy, I would like to stress that my statement is correct and not to be corrected. One does not exclude the other! And of course, it’s also the tournaments you deserve. As a professional rider, I know very well what I’m talking about. In higher classes, prize money plays a role, of course, apart from the increase in the value of the horse.

In Marbach, I know no horse goes in “high sports”. And even if a horse goes Grand Prix, it cannot earn its own living, let alone finance a stud.

Of course there are (also) verderbers for sport, how do you think that not…?

Urlewas

Well – I find the word “genug” important in the question. I therefore believe that it is necessary to make clear that they cannot really earn ‘genuity’. 🤗

Hjalti

I am sure that this is not the case. It is not possible without subsidies – but I did not say either.

Vererbers bring deck tax. But these are not horrendous sums there. But no matter what, come in with everything, but the stud can’t work in a cost-covering way, especially not by prize money, which are already eaten by the costs that cause tournaments.

In particular, the breeds highlighted in such docus, which are threatened by extinction, such as the Altwürthemberger, and especially the Süddeutsche Kaltblut, do not bring much.
