Woher “wissen” Fledermäuse ihre Ausflugzeit?

Am 15.8.2021 flogen die Fledermäuse wenige Minuten nach 20.42 Uhr (= Sonnenuntergang) aus:

Am 25.8. waren die Ausflüge schon deutlich früher, nämlich wenige Minuten nach 20.22 Uhr (=Sonnenuntergang)

Wonach orientieren sich die Fledermäuse in ihren Spaltenquartieren, um stets wenige Minuten nach Sonnenuntergang auszufliegen.

They are oriented towards the light conditions. On rainy or cloudy days they mostly fly a bit earlier than on sunny days.

And when they fly exactly depends on the way. Some, like dwarves and evening sailors, are not so light-sensitive and flee correspondingly very early. Other types such as mouse ears fly only when it is really dark.

Right, evening sailors sometimes fly together with masons in the evening…

I think they use several senses. On the one hand they certainly have an inner watch, in addition they listen to the sounds that other animals make. The amount of light that penetrates into their accommodation can also play a role. Maybe it’s just her feeling of hunger that drives her out. But the most important thing is certainly their inner watch. They know exactly how late it is.
