Every city has its own name that is special. Why is Cologne Cologne or why is Frankfurt Frankfurt? This question cannot be answered. It’s all made names.

The name “Freudenstadt” derives from Duke Friedrich I of Württemberg, who founded the city in 1599. The city was called the “Freudenstadt” to express the joy of the birth of his son, Duke Friedrich II. Therefore, the name “Freudenstadt”, which translates as much as “city of joy”. The place is located in the Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

I didn’t say anything about any city name being invented. Most city names have a relation to location or other things.

Edit: Oh, something went wrong here. Why is my comment on another one? I’ll take everything back. He should be independent…

In your examples it is known

Frankfurt comes from Franken and Furt and describes a place where the Franks pursued the Saxony over the Main.

Cologne comes from the Roman colony.

Just place names always have a background. However, there are places whose first settlement is so old that one cannot always prove etymologically where the name originates.

For the first time, the 1601 was originally mentioned. Where this name comes is not clear.

In most cases, places retain the name, even if the city gets better or worse.

Could be.

Only if that’s how it comes from “Darmstadt”?
