Where to buy used hard drives?

Good morning,

It really annoys me that the price of hard drives has stagnated for years. My 5TB external drive cost €100 five years ago and it still costs that much now. 3.5" drives now offer much more storage (20TB+), but I'm having trouble finding 4-6TB models at a reasonable price. They're fine used, too, since I only need them for archiving and will then end up in a drawer (i.e., stay in storage mode). But where can I find good used hard drives? It's not eBay. If I can get a new 5TB drive for €100 (2.5"), I think €70 for 4-6TB of 3.5" drives with thousands of hours of operation is just ridiculous.

Have seen many “generally overhauled” (whatever this may mean at HDDs) HDDs when I had searched for HDDs around the 10TB.

4-6TB found nothing? Okay, had put my eye on something bigger.

Hard drives are difficult. You will hardly find a company that sells used people because the data protection reasons are more constrained. And from private customers, you only get scrap, who’s already swapping the record if it’s not broken. This is also not better because in this area too, 3.84/7.68TB SSDs keep in motion, because simply the demand for such “small” plates is no longer there.

For backup functions e.g. SSDs are less sensible and more expensive than HDDs.

Clearly, but the need for “small” plates shrinks, which makes them more expensive. If the amount of backups exceeds a certain amount, LTO band is also interesting again, but the drives are still expensive….

In addition to important documents, etc., have quite a lot of photos and videos. I spiegle the via syncthing via several computers, and from one I then make backups, more or less regular, important more often than from “rest” to several plates, multigeneration principle.

Yes, unfortunately. Only privately I don’t put more than 2 records in the closet with some TB, so much data I wouldn’t have. But I don’t make any videos…

LTO is privately “unpaid”, are of course a good backup medium.
