Where can I find very affordable hosting for Java and Postgres (for development)?
Hey everyone,
I can use Google, but there are a lot of smart people here.
For a private project, I am looking for a way to host a Spring Boot process, i.e. Java, and a Postgres.
I'll probably be able to deliver JavaScript, HTML, and other resources to any hosting provider. There will probably always be some kind of web server option.
CORS would still be a question, but I assume that I configure that in my Java application and hopefully the hoster supports it all.
Regarding Last: I'd just like to develop it. I do it locally and it works so far, but I'd like to have a public deployment.
However, users would only be test users and therefore less than 5 (I would say).
I could, of course, also use DynDNS and host it locally, but if there are reasonably affordable solutions, I'd consider those too. It would be really nice, of course, if I could scale as needed so that more than a few users could access the system.
Oh, and in case it's relevant, the entire project is currently running locally on my system, including the database in a Docker container. It's also 100% a hobby project.

It is possible that you can stay in the Free Tier one of the major cloud providers (GCP, AWS, Azure, …). And even a little bit beyond that will be cheap.
Alternatively, you can view some of the classic vServer providers (in Europe for example Netcup, Strato, Hetzner, …). A few euros a month ago, you get a machine that can easily run your application and postgres. Example: https://www.netcup.de/vserver/arm-server/ – the cheapest machine should be enough if you don’t do anything crazy.
I’d use AWS directly, but I’m looking forward to pricing.
As far as I know, you can’t install a cost brake according to the motto “if amount x is exceeded, then you can stop everything”.
I don’t want to get an extremely high bill because I got any traffic I didn’t want to get off.
Otherwise I’d be with AWS right away.

Well, if you’re just taking handy EC2 instances and not car scaling, there can’t be much happening. You can set Alerts, I don’t think Limits.
I’d like to see GCP. The Google cloud is much more enjoyable from usability. Nor does it know ad hoc whether there are hard limits.
I’m just not the guy for AWS. I always have ” fear” that an EC2 instance then goes steep and I have no cost brake. And I’ll wake up with a $20,000 bill.
Surely unlikely, but so stories have been read.
I wish AWS would insert a cost brake. Google Cloud? I’d like to look at this.
I’d like cloud because I’m working in the AWS and I like the concepts in general.
However, if I can fly the costs around my ears, please call the hoster xD

You’ll probably come with a self-hosted system. For example, you can click Prepaid Server for signal transmitters. I had to make some negative experiences with the provider from time to time, but the prices are very good. From 4 euros a month you will be there. I would prefer that, because you can pay monthly and if you don’t need it anymore, you’ll just pay.
