Where is the americium located in the piece? Is it embedded in the metal, so that even when the metal is abrasive, no americium dust is released?

Strange source of radiation. There is no activity in Bq or Ci on it. The dose in microsievert on the housing says nothing about it and has an information value only in a precise context of use.

Radiation sources with Americium 241 were and are sometimes installed in ionization smoke detectors. About their exact nature is a little bit in English Wikipedia, but the statements do not seem consistent to me.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoke_detector#Ionization (Here, an image description says that something americium sits as a stain on the surface of an aluminum support.)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americium-241#Ionization-type_smoke_detector (Under “Manufacturing process” it is stated that the americium is mixed with gold as oxide and then a glowing, forging and rolling process is carried out.)
