Windows 11 / Old program not working?
Hello,
My problem is that I have a program which has Windows 95 as a minimum requirement. I currently have Windows 11 and unfortunately it only works if the CPU is an Intel. Unfortunately, I now have an AMD-based CPU and unfortunately it no longer works. Is there a way I can get this program to run without having to buy an Intel PC? I also tried to research a website where I can squeeze information out of an .exe file, but I didn't find anything there. Then I tried to use AI to create a new, similar program. The only problem is that I have hardly any knowledge of Python and every time I want to run the script it closes automatically. Now the question is whether there is some way I can get it to work.
Does anyone have an idea? I'm open to anything.
Would of course have been helpful if you had given the name/title of the program and detailed information.
With accurate information, it would be possible to find an alternative or to identify where the actual problem lies (including a possible workaround)
Amazingly, many programs from the Win95/98 era run with the installation of old DirectX components and a few adjustments to the installation folder without major problems.
I cannot understand the behavior you described about the process oeuvre manufacturer, especially since AMDs are more compatible with old x86 CPUs than modern Intels. (In this respect, an error message would be useful)
Without further information on the program, I can only speculate.
There are quite possibilities to set up a complete VM, so that it starts with a click on a desktop link…
…Some w95 programs can be run by link or batch file in an emulator like Dosbox…
Thank you for the detailed answer. The following error message comes after I try to start it “Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. Process id=0x3c18 ‘(15384), Thred id=0x2c8c (11404).”
I’ll try this with the VM once.
The programme is a preparation for my employer, unfortunately the programme is very old.
Python programs can also be compiled into an EXE file. That’s it.
The compilation is now started. When finished you will find further subfolders in the folder: build and dist. In the dist folder you will find the programmname.exe which is then run independently without Python.
Here

you can buy preconfigured computers with Windows XP. There is no Win95 program running under XP.
Create a Windoof95 VM with VirtualBox and run the Proggie there.
That’s what I thought as the PC incl. Programme is not for me, but for a woman who is not able to use this is unfortunately not in question. Is there another way?
At the moment I don’t see
