Sure, in principle, you can back them up anywhere. Ultimately, it's a kind of archive that simply stores the backed-up data in the correct directory when unpacked. Of course, this is a much simplified approach.

You can store it on other computers, hard drives, or cloud providers—anywhere you can store files.

However, it is only useful to use and open it on the original PC

As long as the hard drive capacity is sufficient, yes, but if at all you can only start one of the two versions of Windows.
