How much do you spend on food each month?

Everything has become more expensive and I noticed that my monthly costs have increased a lot

How much do you spend approximately per month on food, drinks, and cleaning supplies? Per person! (Please include the number of people in your household.)

(without cigarettes, alcohol or similar)

Honestly, I don’t know exactly, but since I eat quite often in the restaurant, I assume it’s more than 550 EUR.

Plusminus about 100€ per month per person, however, not only for food but also for beverages, hygiene products and detergents as a whole. So up to the month maximum 200€ for everything.

This has been a problem for many years and even now, where we no longer live in Germany but in Austria, it works without problems. Austria is more expensive than Germany.

Planning is everything. Once a week, make us a meal plan for the week on the basis of what we have at home, what is in the offer and what we just have again.

Then I’ll write a shopping list with the things I still have to buy and just buy what’s on this list.

To do this, I make a lot for ourselves, we drink practically only water from the SodaStream or tea (rare that we buy Limo and even if it is greatly reduced in the offer and even it is then mixed with water), buy a lot after offers or MHD goods, buy no finished products/finish dishes, drink virtually no alcohol or energy drinks, there is mainly little vegan food for us and only very much.

For this it is freshly cooked daily and also abundant. But we often also have very simple dishes such as spaghetti aglio e olio today, which has not cost me a euro on the four large portions 🤷🏼 there was then tomatensalat which may have cost me a euro. So a meal for two people for just 2€. We don’t need daily in three-course menu and my partner also needs meat every day at any meal though he likes to eat it (not because I would forbid it to eat it, but he just doesn’t want it because he doesn’t want the vegan which I cook very well. But even if there was something with meat every day, I wouldn’t spend more 🤷🏼 I did years ago.

So we’re two adults and a kid. We’ve got two more cats and a dog, I’m quite economical, I’d say. In addition, I also run a household book and use very helpful apps 🙂 For a weekly purchase (with all this) I pay on average 100-150 Euro and yes, we feed healthy, varied and will all be satt 🤭

I just need something like that. 250-300€ in the month.

About 600€ if you only count pure food. But for the family, not just for me.

This question is interesting and also very difficult to answer.

Regularly we are two grown-ups, but often daughter, son-in-law and the two grandchildren come to it.

We have been trying for years with the help of a budget book to cover costs in some way realistic. This is not easy and even more difficult due to the greatly increased costs, including the hidden costs in the many mogel packs.

I think, however, that we are well above 550 euros.
