Why are production costs so high for films and series?

Theoretically, you "only" need a camera, a tripod, actors (friends could also take over), props, a laptop, an editing program, a self-written script, plenty of time, creativity, and perseverance to make a film.

Of course, if necessary, permission to film in the places where you would like to film.

I know I'm probably going to get a lot of criticism for what I'm saying, but just think about it.

Theoretically, that would be feasible.

What do you think?

Would it be worth a try?

PLEASE ONLY POST SERIOUS AND HELPFUL ANSWERS, THANK YOU!

I looked after TV spots for several years on the customer side.

For example, to turn a scene in the Wallstreet, you have 100 people on the set. Security people, lighters, runners, set designers, cleanliness, control assistance, comparses, drivers for the equipment, precision driver for the shooting, performers and compartments, catering, directing, camera, camera assistant, continuity, O-Ton+ assistance, costume…

The list could go almost endlessly.

Directors for high-quality productions cost six digits. Camera people with corresponding reputation as well.

Cutting can take a day per minute, with equipment in the clearly seven-digit cost range.

Music is often composed, played with high-quality orchestras. The production is complicated and then, depending on the use, the rights to use are to be paid. What is also for directing, camera and actor.

Only for the acquisition of props can it be that a multi-cold team is busy for weeks. Some have to be made first.

I could still write a lot, but the place and the time here are not enough to reflect study and years of experience.

Well, then you can leave a lot of it. A film still needs effort if it should look after something. Some people are also employed in the background for low, short and no budgets. Some of the functions are simply brewing if something is to be done in the end.

There are quite remarkable films produced with mini budgets. But the stories about this are sometimes hairy.

Hotels, flights, salaries, technology, special services, etc. Summ up.

Not only do you have a camera and these movie cameras cost 50k or more quickly.

Actors also want great rewards and if you can make extra companies CGI, etc., this is also expensive.

You can also do everything in Germany.

This is why fixed costs first fall away.

Why should “fix costs” fall away in Germany??

You don’t need custom productions.

who speaks of “special productions”!?!?!?

You can also take a normal camera with high resolution.

What would be a “not normal” camera?

it is not about “resolution” but also about other things, such as dynamic range, color range, color depth, log gamma/RAW recording, usability of the data for post production etc…

Like I said, actors could be friends. They wouldn’t ask for anything.

Why should friends do that for free? You have the best foundation for problems and discussions!

And CGI is tasteless…

Good CGI don’t even notice!!

Actors can be friends?

I don’t have to say anything about that.

And lots of fun a scene in the jungle with you in the garden.

I spoke in my answer of custom productions, and the expensive films have plenty of it.

Of course you can also turn a movie with low or no bug. Just as you can eat for 10€ but also have 300€ in a 3-star restaurant. The difference is the quality.

A decent actor who is supposed to be credible needs years of training. Just like a cameraman, effect specialists or film cutter. High-end film cameras are also so expensive that they are usually only borrowed from the production companies.

Of course, you can also realize this with a low budget. But it won’t get to a Hollywood production. But there are enough movies that have been realized with low budgets, such as Blair Witch Project or the short film Lights Out, which was later filmed for the cinema.

That would theoretically be in the realm.

Of course you can do this on the cheap tour.

Would it be worth a try?

Just go and report here.

There are also films with extremely small budget.

It is precisely important how complicated and with what effort a film is rotated in the post production.

That’s right.

Hi.

But you just say that because you have absolutely no idea how films are produced.

You can try this yourself and we will look at your result.

“CGI is tasteless” you wrote in a comment …

But all series and films are no longer clear – or cannot be implemented at all.

So in everything I watch on American shows, so CSI, Monk, etc., everything is only shot in the studio or on the studio grounds. They don’t travel around…

Look at the video. Will your vision change things… nothing is real.

Actor, setup, rent, technique (tone/light), people in background (catring, mask), post-processing, cutting … costs ALL money. So expensive.

Have you ever seen a film? Do you have any idea how many people are directly and indirectly involved in a movie? These are TRAINING people!!

and then what do you want with that bullshit? Do you think anyone wants to see that? YouTube is full of any cheap scrap movies for which no one is interested and even those have cost some large sums, at the latest when someone in reality realizes that what he has imagined in the theory so everything is perfect bullshit and you are not coming far without money
