On the one hand, in order to be able to operate the parking light even without a running motor, on the other hand, in order to intercept consumption peaks. At low speeds, the lighting machine may not provide enough power to supply all consumers at the same time. Anyone who has already been driven with a defective or without a battery has probably found that, for example, the flashers then react very slowly to the switching on and rather glow in front of each other, in addition, the brightness of the low beam is then dependent on the speed, which is also less optimal.

For ignition and light when the engine is switched off. Once drove an old Harley WLA 750 Bj 1947, which had kicker and a tiny battery, but without ignition I would have turned on by key in vain.

However, this is only the case with a DC-CDI or moderate vehicles with ECU. A conventional AC-CDI is fed directly by the high-voltage charging anchor and works completely without a battery.
