How does Apple calculate storage space?
I received a warning on my MacBook that the hard drive was almost full. 498 of 499 GB were in use.
Now I've moved about 100 GB of movies off the hard drive and deleted them. The new information says 491 of 499 GB are in use.
Does anyone know how this is calculated? Why does deleting 100 GB of files not create 100 GB of additional free space, but only 7 GB?
There are, as for Windows, also programs that show you where the storage space is consumed.
For Windows e.g. windirstat
See if there’s this for Mac.
You should also delete the recycle bin content, because first the whole stuff lands
The stated values of the new available data volume are already after emptying the recycle bin.
