How much oil remains in the oil circuit from the last oil change?

Hi, I have a Ducati Hypermotard 796 and I've already put in 400 ml less than the recommended amount to make it fit. Is this normal?

So I’m not a motorcycle mechanic and don’t know your Dukati, but experienced screwdriver and also already had some different mopeds.

A little remains in the engine, but if just half a litre of the specified filling does not go in, then something is wrong.

I know it from larger enduros that have dry-soak lubrication (here the oil supply is not, as with “usual” engines, at the bottom in an oil pan, but is pumped off in operation from there and transported in a separate oil container) that when oil is changed in a certain order the oil is discharged via different drain screws (e.g. oil reservoirs, oil filter housing, oil sump) and then again in a predetermined order

Your Dukati seems to have a rather complex motörchen, maybe it’s similar there (separate storage container, oil cooler…).

Did you change after a trustworthy guide, or “free muzzle”?

It would be usual to remove the oil almost completely with a warm engine, to change the oil filter and then to fill the prescribed amount of oil according to the manufacturer’s specifications, there is nothing left in it.

Start briefly so that the oil can spread. Then look again in the show glass

Maybe because you didn’t change the oil filter.

Oil filter! If you have a new one, let the engine run short and the filter fills.
