Incense sticks near a rat cage?
Hey people, I have incense sticks and would like to light one in my room again. The only problem is that I have rats in my room and I don't know if they can tolerate it. I've heard that when rats can no longer smell their own scent, they pee more often to mark the…
Never been to the vet?
Hi So, I've had my guinea pigs for eight months and have never taken them to the vet. When is the latest I need to go? PS: You were and are always healthy
Hamster cage?
Hello there! I recently got my sweet hamster a new, more species-appropriate cage and wanted to know what you think. And before the first complaints come up: This darker wood isn't coniferous wood! It's something else. I just forgot the name. ^^ (By the way: The cage is 100x50x50cm, and the bedding is about 20cm…
Fur care (rabbit)?
Hello, my rabbit has quite a lot of fur, and I got a brush, but it's not that good. I have one of my own that I don't use anymore and it's still clean. Should I use that? What should I use for grooming his fur, just the brush? Because all the bedding gets stuck…

Is this normal?
ByGreta818
Hello everyone, I have a 7-year-old guinea pig (male). His lower teeth are currently very long. Naturally, I called the vet immediately and we made an appointment for next Monday. They'll only trim his lower teeth (the others are fine). Now my question: is it normal to pay €50 just for these lower teeth? Previously,…
Hello 🙋
If the rats get tumors then about 250 euros per surgery. And that usually lives at least once in their lives (if it is not cancer).
Normal diseases (snaps, ophthalmitis,…) cost about 30 with medication partly 40 euros.
Lung diseases such as mycroplasms and pneumonia cost less than an operating system but still around 200 euros (with VAT) because you pay 30 euros for the investigation, 10 euros for sedation and hygiene and 80 euros for the first 2 X-ray images. Medicines are approx. 10-20 euros. And at mycroplasem all the time when it’s running out.
Mycroplasms are by the way not exactly unlikely (80 % of rats have it in themselves, but not everyone breaks it off).
So, depending on how it runs 300-1000 (and even more) costs for animals that cost 10 euros per se 🥲 and of which you have to keep at least 4 pieces.
But if you save 200 euros per rat at purchase and save 20-30 euros per month per rat, you don’t really need to worry that the money is not enough (recommendations from different rat holders)
The whole numbers are based on their own experiences.

If they are older you can also authenticate them in the tumor
Yes, but that is not necessary (as long as the animal is otherwise healthy) and should not be done (my opinion). Narcoses for Nagers are now very safe and lung disease rats can be partially operated (where I would not take the risk). Such a non-operated tumor drastically shortens life expectancy, although the rat could still have had such a long and happy life.
In the end, of course, it is necessary to decide individually in any case.
Krass 6 years 😱 but clear, I understand you
Recently, in practice in which I work, we had a rat 6 years old, with tumor 1/3 of body volume. I still have to operate morally supremely discarding holders and animals
Sorry my mistake, I missed the older 🙈
That’s why I say older. Nagern has a higher risk of anesthesia than Hd/Ktz
Between 0 and 20,000€
If you’re reasonable so ca. 20€
Definitely not. At least 100.
If you can’t say that, it depends on whether or not she gets illnesses.
