I have a degu whose partner unfortunately passed away on December 18, 2023. He's now alone, so I've been looking for a new partner his age. I found an ad for two degus the same age as him that were being given away together.
So now to my question: how do I socialize them?
I have a cage that can't be divided or anything.
Everything has been cleaned and my degu has always been close to me because he wants to cuddle a lot at the moment, which is often the case with grieving or alone degus.
I definitely don't want to give him away and I don't want to split up the two degus either.
What should I do now?

How did it work?
I can only share my cradle in the top and bottom. First of all, I put the transport box in the lower part of my socialization. This allows you to make a little contact. Then I always put the new Degu in the upper part, so that he can look around, find running paths, seek hiding, etc….can.
After a few hours, I’ll leave the degu up with the greatest serenity. When they get along well, I open the connection so that everyone can move freely.
Until the last attempt, it worked very well, except for a few ranges. The last degusingle was a rather vicious guy who had already killed two babies. I had the hope that it could work with older animals. Unfortunately not… Now he is castrated and is to become a girl or a group of girls.
Maybe you can tell me how you did it and how the result is.
By the way, I’m not a friend of mine to keep the animals on a grid for months.

I tried the method with the grids and it worked really fast! After just two weeks, it was gone and everything went fine. Unfortunately, I haven’t degus since two of the group have died in a short period of time and I had finally delivered to a very dear girl who has a small opi. I often get updates as he goes and how he’s so busy. Something came off the theme ups..naja I put the degus into the socialization enclosure we built and exchanged their pages every day until every two times. After only a few days, they lay cuddly at the grid. However, since the enclosure is very large, I didn’t want to risk anything and left it a little more than a week still km of socialization enclosure. Later in the right stable there were a few little more but not. They’ve been perfectly understood by the last day.
I hope it will work with your degu and he will pass the castration well even that he may now understand himself with a new group.
