How does the gynecologist test for herpes?

Since I have unfortunately had blisters in my intimate area for some time now which are very painful etc., I would be interested to know if they are herpes blisters or something else?

But how is this tested?

When you go for a routine check-up, they routinely take this swab inside.

Would this routine internal swab reveal anything if you had genital herpes (although I have the blisters on the outside of my labia)?

Or would they have to do an additional test (which is not included in the routine check-up) to determine this?

Why I ask this:

I went for a routine checkup a few months ago, when I already had the blisters, and I said I was interested to know if it was herpes or something else. She only did the routine checkup and said the blisters weren't that bad, but despite repeated questions about whether it was herpes, she didn't say anything except that it wasn't that bad, so I'm just as clueless as before.

I'm also wondering now, did she not say anything because she thought it would come out in a normal smear test anyway, and therefore didn't really bother to look into my blister?

Or can this not be determined during the routine check, and I have to make sure that she doesn't fob me off with the routine check again in the future, and possibly insist several times that I want to have it clarified what disease these blisters ultimately are, until she finally agrees to do the herpes test with me?

Every gynecologist can recognize and clarify this with the eye.

Very strange doctor. This must be handled urgently
