How to reset a BIOS password?
I bought a used computer, and the BIOS is password-protected. Since I want to reinstall the operating system, I have to change the boot order, which isn't possible because of the password. Unfortunately, I won't be able to contact the previous owner until the new year, but I have time to set it up now.
Is it sufficient to remove the battery from the board for a while to delete all settings, including the password? Or does the BIOS then have a default password that even the previous owner might not know?
What other options are there?
That might have worked 20 years ago. Today this has absolutely no influence on the set passwords in the BIOS.
Either you have the password and then you can remove it or you didn’t have it and bad luck. Not even the board manufacturers can remove this without exchanging the complete chip.
That’s what I’m afraid of. Then I hope the previous owner knows the password. Otherwise, I have to rewind the purchase because the device won’t help me.
You can try it anyway, the board probably also has two pins that you can shorten to reset
Evtl can also function a BIOS Flash, but is naturally associated with risk. I would also be advised if the purchase is still in the room
I tried – didn’t work. I don’t see a jumper or pins for it.
