How do I make footnotes on a typewriter?

Hey people!

I would really like to type out my term paper on a typewriter (and have already discussed this with my lecturer).
I'm already experienced in typing and setting, but I'm currently facing a small problem: how do I create footnotes using a typewriter?

I'm using the German citation style for my term paper, and it's pretty easy to do in Word and similar programs, but how did people create footnotes on a typewriter back in the day? Or did they simply not do it in the old days (i.e., use a different citation style)?

If you have any other tips and tricks for typing on a typewriter, please feel free to share them with me!

Thanks in advance 🙂

Since your lecturer has already agreed, just ask him/her.

I would type them regularly, the keys are there and then create separate pages for it. It’s the easiest thing. But not necessarily the option your teacher wants to see.
