Newly purchased chains always come (almost always) too long. You have to shorten it. They also always come either with a connecting member, the so-called chain lock or with a rivet pin.

To shorten, you need a chain rivet pusher, for connecting to the rivet pin as well. The Chain locksIn my opinion, the link MissingLink chain fastener is the better choice.

You can also rivet chains directly, but real chain rivets with which you do it cost over 100 euros.

Ideally riveted with riveting device, but with bicycles I would also have no concerns about a chain lock.
