The vibration can be represented directly in a diagram, as a size of the deflection depending on time.

Or, since vibrations can be represented as superposition of vibrations of different amplitudes and frequencies, the amplitudes of the vibrations can be applied as a function of the frequency and thus has a frequency spectrum.

Both representations are closely related to one another, mathematically connecting the so-called Fourier transformation.
