When smoking, the nicotine enters the liver via the bloodstream. There it is metabolized in cotinin and has a half-life of 16 to 22 hours in the blood and urine, while nicotine is no longer detectable after 30 minutes. In the hair, cotinin remains stuck for three to five days.

In the blood, THC can be detected for up to three days, whose degradation products are detected for up to three weeks. In urine, THC can be detected from one week to three months (depending on the intensity and frequency of consumption). THC is detectable in the hair for several months.
