If a tooth filling has secondary caries (caries at the edge of the filling), the durability is very different. Amalgam falls out of the tooth relatively quickly, since it no longer finds enough hold. Plastic is glued and can hold much longer in the tooth. The tricky thing is that it hollows out the tooth relatively unnoticed under the filling and you have toothaches, even though the plastic filling looks in a cycle.

It depends on a lot. The starting position, the material of filling, the competence of the dentist. Basically, the 15-30 years, I would say.

Depends on the type of filling.
Good amalgam fillings last almost forever (I have those who haven’t had problems for 50 years).

All other types of tooth fillings last less long.

There are no tooth fillings for caries – with the exception of possibly. a temporary filling – because all caries must be completely removed before a filling is laid. This should last a few years (provided good oral hygiene).

Depends on the filling.
