How to get health insurance after completing an FSJ?

Hello everyone,

I need your help.

I am now finishing my voluntary social year on August 31st, during which I was covered by statutory health insurance for the first time.

Previously, I had private health insurance under my father.

Now my voluntary social year is coming to an end and until my planned police studies begin in July, I am working in a mini-job and on a flat-rate trainer's allowance in our sports club.

Now the problem with health insurance:

After a review lasting over a month, my application for membership in the GK for family insurance was rejected because my father apparently earns too much.

However, my father's pension fund does not want to accept me after a previous health check, which I cannot do at short notice.

I could, of course, continue to voluntarily insure myself with my current health insurance provider, but that would involve high contributions.

What should I do now? What are my options? Perhaps I should register as unemployed, even though I'm starting my studies again in July.

Thank you for your help!

If you have made a voluntary service, contributions are also paid to unemployment insurance.

You should be within 30 months. 12 months have paid contributions to unemployment insurance, then you would have fulfilled the ALG – 1 of the Employment Agency.

If you are available to the labour market for mediation, ALG – 1 from the employment agency would be paid for 6 months at least, then your contributions to the sickness fund and pension insurance would also be paid.

Otherwise, you’ll have to pay for 230 euros a month.

You can insure yourself cheaper through the student rate.
