How can you better prepare for exams?

I'm currently getting very bad grades and I just don't know which learning method suits me best.

For Mandarin, there's the HSK, for Japanese, the JLPT, and for English, the TOEFL. What about Spanish? I only know the CEFR, but I can't imagine it. Is there a more popular language proficiency test, or is the CEFR the dominant one when it comes to Spanish?

If you've already taken the exam, you could just spontaneously write down which questions were asked—the ones that come to mind right now. That would be great.
