How can you stop horses from eating bedding?
Hey!
Our horses received new bedding in their open stable three days ago. They have access to hay in nets 24 hours a day.
They're a type of straw pellet. We've been struggling for three days now to get the horses to stop eating them. We've tried everything: dissolving them with water and vinegar, using anti-bite spray. There are additional hay nets in the open stable, but the horses still eat a noticeable amount of them. According to the stable owner, this will subside in a few days and isn't dangerous. We're pretty desperate :/
Does anyone have any tips on how to keep the horses away from the bedding?
Best regards
This is not so easy in fact, but it is not really dangerous in modern littering.
Then, besides the hay, make available quite normal straw.
There are horses that can’t have straw.
There are people who have irritable intestines and there are people who, in the worst case, do not keep up with suffering.
So what do you say?
My pony can’t stand on spuns either. ordered by veterinarian
What does a lot mean and why so tragic?
The horses eat the pellets for hours. The danger of colic or clogging is very high.
Your fears may occur, but even had no cases of it. Also do not know a study that is clear here, all “modern” disposables are susceptible there. At new facility!

But it also fits greedy horses, with normal hay.
That’s true, of course. I also see it a bit more relaxed, but in the long run they should not eat the litter for hours. Dran Knabbern is totally okay, only this “inhale” seems very strange to us.
