What's the name of this movie? Horror/Thriller?

Hey, okay, I'm looking for a different movie this time. I can't remember all the details exactly. But I'll try to describe it as best as I can.

The film is about a little boy (I'm not sure if he was a teenager, but it's most likely!) and his mother. The two move into a really big house.

However, strange things start happening at night, so another man ends up looking after the family of two and he sleeps on the sofa (for better results, this man was black and the family was white).

The boy learns about the basement in the house and goes in. However, he sees something, and strange noises are coming from there.

In the next scene, all I know is that the man who tries to protect the family is killed by the person/figure.

The mother is then tied to a chair and I think 5 or 6 of her fingers are completely broken.

However, the family makes it and ambulance and police arrive.

Hopefully someone knows what I mean. I watched it not too long ago, but I just can't remember the title. It's definitely about the basement in the house, though.
