How do I apologize for a late submission?

My (vocational) school is offering an internship abroad next year as part of the Erasmus+ program. I submitted my application on time, but I didn't have a photo at the time. I wrote that I would submit it as soon as possible, but that was two weeks ago.

If I submit a picture now, how can I professionally apologize for the delay? I wanted to cite illness (5 days) and a lot of exams as the reason. Does that sound like an excuse?

I don’t know what the real reason is. If it was done at home, disease is not a reason. Technical problems sooner. I don’t think it’s a good thing
