How to prune an oak tree?
Hello everyone, we have an approximately 40-year-old oak tree in our front yard.
We haven't pruned the oak tree for the past four years. It's now taller than our house.
Otherwise, the tree appears healthy. How much can we trim the tree without damaging it?
thank you very much in advance
Since in a oak, the production of fruit is not at the forefront, as in fruit trees, it is possible to dispense with classical crowning.
It should be sufficient to leave the naturally grown shape and around the entire crown approx. 1 m shorter.
The same habitat was then reduced to a smaller volume.
Let someone know, but next winter, not now. Oaks are more delicate about cutting. A layman breaks more
In order not to damage the well-grown tree, I would judge it, if necessary, by a tree gardener and possibly cut it.
If you want to cut your oak, you should do this best in the early spring. Since the oak at this time is shortly before the expulsion, it has a high cell activity and can thus heal faster. In addition, the reserves are largely stored in the trunk and strong branches.
