How do you retain a language?
What do I need to do to avoid unlearning newly learned languages over time? And how long does it take to unlearn a language?

Hey guys! I'm a bit confused right now because I have no idea what goes together anymore. I understand the stylistic devices, but who does it belong to?
Is there a more meaningful word than "aunt" for my grandson's wife? 😅
Good day everyone, I'm supposed to give a lecture about Germany to Chinese students in China. Part of it is about how Germans learn Chinese in Germany. So, I'm learning Chinese. I know my path and that of my classmates, and I also know the Confucius Institutes. But my professor wants a broad answer. I…

Do you also enjoy typing the word "VALUE" on the keyboard? I find it incredibly satisfying because the letters are all next to each other. It's as if the keyboard manufacturers were having a bit of fun. I always get a little excited when I can use the word in a text and sometimes intentionally…
At least once a week dealing with the language by reading, writing texts and speaking as much as possible. Is in the internet age actually possible in any language, the dominant regional language somewhere in the world.
No! You almost saw the Spaced Repetition formulated into a certain method that is even slower than Spaced Repetition.
Spaced Repetition is the solution. Repeatedly learned into certain intevalles and then these come into the long-term memory. So 1 repetition after 20 minutes, 2nd after 1 hour, 3th after 9 hours, 4th after 1 day, 5th after 2 days, etc. so always longer time intervals between the repetitions and so you gradually push them into long-term memory. If you learn this information again, these are not in the long-term memory but in the medium-term memory (max. 2 months). I recommend a free card app: Anki. You can write your vocabulary on it and then they are automatically sorted in the Spaced Repetition Algorthymus and then you can learn it. (Absolute IMPORTANT: also use “Acitve Recall” if you would be repeating, you always consider for a maximum of 5-10 minutes whether this answer can still remember from memory, if max. 10 minutes around (usually they have already been retrieved) and could not retrieve, then look at it no time, but make the repetition set to 20 minutes, i.e. again from the front). This was complex, but the app “Anki” does everything, even that starts with the ones from the front, it organizes everything, or if the app “Anki” is too confusing, then “Study Smarter” also has Spaced Repi and Kartei cards.
By talking to them. Preferably with native speakers.
Use it or loose it.
