How to charge camera battery?

I've read a few different posts here and am now unsure about charging. Should I take a photo of the battery until it's completely empty before charging it, or is that actually bad for the battery over time? (The camera is from 2019, but I bought it new, if that helps.) Thanks for the reply! 🙂

modern cameras have a kind of test electronics that prevents the so-called “low discharge”, i.e. they report “accu empty” and refuse the service if it is discharged to such an extent that normal working is no longer possible, but still has enough residual tension to prevent this deep discharge.

Since the capacity of most batteries decreases progressively and, unfortunately, does not decrease linearly, it is necessary to check if it is charged enough or if necessary a reserve battery is involved.

quite earlier, the old NC akkus took badly when one has charged them to share, then a so-called “memeory effect”, which at the end also supposedly “fullly charged” had only a micky capacity to follow.

modern lithium or MH batteries do not know this effect, you can recharge it in any charging state. not only applies to cameras, but to almost everything that has rechargeable batteries.

No, it’s really bad. If only one of four bars is still visible, I have a full replacement battery in my backpack.

With more modern devices with lithium-based battery technologies, it is better to only discharge up to about 10-15% residual capacity if there is no possibility of recharging.

Older models with Ni-CD or Ni-MH batteries would be far less sensitive.

I would load it if the camera indicates that it is almost empty, so I do it with me if you wait until the battery is completely empty, then it could happen that it is deep discharge and can no longer be charged.

I usually photograph until it’s empty. Sometimes he’s half full and I’ll charge again. I don’t care. For years, nothing has happened, and I shouldn’t have had anything to do with it. It’s a battery you get thrown behind for a few euros. It’s not a fortune.

Can charge as you want. If you don’t use the battery for longer, store it half loaded

I load my Before every photo tour no matter how much else it is

That would be stupid if you were going on a photo tour with an almost empty battery. I’ve always loaded it before (and took one to change).

One of mine was completely empty and hasn’t been charged ever since.
