Why only 30 or 50 km/h?
Why are debates about urban speed limits always focused on 30 km/h or 50 km/h? As if there were nothing in between.
I often feel that, especially on smaller, moderately clear streets, 50 km/h is actually too fast, while at 30 km/h you feel like you're barely moving.
However, there are only extremely rare speed limits of 40 km/h.
And there are calls from some quarters for a general limit of 30 km/h in urban areas, which is rigorously rejected by others.
However, even outside of town, the permitted speeds are often differentiated more finely, with speeds between 50 and 80 km/h and sometimes even higher, and all intermediate speeds in increments of 10 km/h very common.
So why is this viewed so polarized within the city?
I don’t know why. I also know 30s where none belong.
I came from Kaiserslautern and went to school in Ramstein.
In Ramstein many larger roads were signposted with 40 km/h. The side streets with 30 km/h.
There was a 50th street there. The other major traffic wires had 40.
In 2018 they decided to create a “uniform speed zone”.
All 40s were gone and became a huge 30s zone, along with the side streets already signposted as 30s.
When you walk from the swimming pool towards Air Base / Downtown, there is no house for several hundred meters, no side street. At the swimming pool itself the road is straight and wide.
40 you can drive there easily.
There the 30s zone is absolutely ridiculous.
Because it is. Within 30 are actually completely inefficient.
Well, there are different views on this. The Federal Environment Agency sees this quite differently, for example:
https://www.umweltbundesamt.de/themes/transport/sustainable mobility/tempolimit
I personally see a flat-rate reduction to 30 as indicated above in my question also rather skeptical.
My question is therefore aimed at why only “grobmotor” is being discussed and intermediate stages – as far as I am concerned – do not occur in the discussion at all.
…and who rules in the Federal Environment Agency?
Practical tests have proved the car to be significantly more sprite than 50 at 30km/h, as the speed is significantly higher
I read your question as she says.
I can drive 50 in the 6th. 40 no more.
It doesn’t matter about my question.
Comes safely on the vehicle and the way of driving. In the case of the company vehicles with which I am occasionally on the go, it is not necessary to shut down for 30 km/h.
But your argument would be just one more reason to consider my approach because for 40 km/h shutdown is even less necessary.
Exciting question, presumably because a few people prayed an extreme opinion and you can’t talk reasonably with them.
There are also 7, 10 or 20 zones.
Yeah, there’s almost nothing there is.
But what you write about is extremely rare and does not answer my question.
Seven zones are not rare. These are pedestrian areas where car traffic is allowed. Or play roads.
Do you want to understand the core of my question intentionally?
What would you like 33 or 44 Km/h?
Still pass my question. Why are hardly any intermediate stages considered between 30 and 50?
Because we have 50 now and produce mass dead
Because 30 would be reasonable.
I have 40.
The speed limit must remain unpredictable. If there’s a patch carpet of 30, 40 and 50 kmh, you don’t know where you’re in front of the car. Especially in the statdt you pay more attention to the streets than to the signposts that exist anyway to the genuege. Building an extensive sign forest does not help the drivers or the residents. The simplest waer a complete new regulation to 30kmh throughout the city center area, with exceptions to special roads.
Politics is not always rational, especially as there are, for example, 35 still another variant that would be ideal for many cars because the best speed in the third gear …
No, the best in the 4th. Gang’s 40.
