Why not a basic allowance for trainees?
Why does the basic tax allowance of €12,096 per year in Germany not apply to trainees, meaning they are still subject to income tax?

Hi, a colleague of mine is attending a technical college (HTL) and urgently needs help with two statics problems. Whether he passes the semester depends on it, so if anyone could solve it, that would be great. I don't have any information yet on whether, and if so, how much, but there might be some…
Nursing professional as permanent night watch, tax class 1. How much net income does this result in?
We're at my parents' holiday home in Turkey. My 6-year-old daughter was whining in the pool, and then I heard my mother yelling at my child, "Shut your mouth or I'll punch you in the face!" I'm so appalled, I confronted her. She's making excuses and is completely uncooperative. Would you prefer your flight or…
My class and I sent a letter to our principal saying we would like to have a specific teacher, but we don't know if it will achieve anything…
What makes you think he’s not valid?
This depends entirely on your employment status and only on your income.
Did you tell your employer the correct pay tax deduction features? If you have insufficient information with Class VI, no allowance will be taken into account.
However, you can retrieve too much tax via income tax returns.
This allowance applies to all employees who are liable to pay, i.e. also to Azubis. It amounts to 11.784 euros this year and rises to 12096 euros tomorrow. But in YEAR, not in the month.
Yeah, I know, but as an apprentice, you usually don’t have $12,000 a year.
Then you don’t pay taxes. In addition, your parents even get child money for you and you probably don’t pay for home and food.
In my knowledge, the basic amount for all taxpayers applies! If your income does not exceed the basic amount, you do not pay any wage tax as an apprentice.
I see it on my payroll, and as an apprentice you’re far away from 12000€.
What do you have gross a month or a year?
I’d have to do this if you’re deducting wage tax below the basic amount. Talk to the accounting department and ask for the money back from the tax office in the annual wage compensation. It may otherwise be that you have entered a false tax class; check it out.
As an apprentice, you also often have over 1000€ gross
It’s on the payroll.
Actually, 1, but I’m going to do it again.
@nobodyathome This is not the case
At EUR 11.784, the allowance is in 2024. Either you’re lying about it or something’s wrong. What kind of pay tax are you?
as above, you may have accidentally wage tax deductions in tax class VI. Otherwise nothing would be due. At 1000 brutto, after deduction of social charges, you would have to pay approx. Get 800 nice!
As I said, less than €1000.
I think that’s probably dependent on the industry.
Ups sorry answered the wrong comment. Actually wanted to address the questioner.
Yeah, I always thought so.
Up to an income of approx. 1500 euros monthly gross should not be tax deductions.
I’m retired by now. However, I learned in tax law that there is only an identical tax exemption depending on the tax class. There is no special scheme for any categories of ARbeit!
If you are now deducting the tax return for 2024 in January, you should get the wage tax below the allowance back from the tax office about a month after the tax return. Note otherwise that the tax deductions assume that you earn as much as in the taxed month all year; if this is not the case, you have definitely paid too much taxes!
