Why is Spotify so popular?

I listen to a lot of music in my free time and have therefore tried out several music apps, including Spotify. However, the frequent audio ads quickly annoyed me, so I immediately uninstalled the app (after looking at the premium prices → €11 per month). I now use YouTube Music with uBlock Origin. (It also works with Firefox on my phone / use an alternative app :>)
So why do so many people use Spotify, even though the app is useless without a monthly payment and you can listen to music ad-free with an easy-to-use ad blocker? After YouTube's failed attempt to block ad block users, you should be familiar with these… (Or shouldn't you?)

I have a Spotify subscription because I can also hear many audiobooks / audio games. And I am not technically enough versed to deal with Ad Blockers on YT. In addition, on YT you can also do no other with the phone while YT runs.
