Why does plasmolysis occur?

Plasmolysis is the release of water, for example, when the external medium is hypertonic, ie contains more water.

But why does this happen? The plant cell must suffer negative consequences because the turgor decreases and it no longer has enough water.

So plasmolysis is totally unnecessary, isn't it?

It would be smarter if water flowed from the external medium into the cell.

Osmosis is a passive process based on differences in concentration. Normally, a cell takes up such water.

If the concentration of the external medium is artificially increased, the plant can enter.

A cell releases water when the concentration of dissolved particles in the outer medium is higher than in the cell.

It is a physical process, everywhere there is a desire to equalize concentration. The basics can be found under the terms diffusion and osmosis read.
