Why do I behave differently with everyone?

Hey

Something's been bothering me for a while now. I feel like I have different personalities/behaviors around different groups of people, and I can't deviate from that. I'm either extremely introverted or extroverted.

For example, with my family, I'm more of the quiet type who doesn't talk much and prefers to listen. But with my friends, I'm the complete opposite (excited, sometimes loud and talkative). I sometimes feel like I don't really know who I am and wouldn't be able to describe myself or my behavior in general if someone asked me… does anyone else feel the same way? Is there a psychological explanation for this?

Yes, there are some people who adapt very well to the respective societies. I know some. who are and would also classify me in it. Once, I have described such a behavior as a “character-Chamäleon”. Some believe that would be negative and you would then be flexible and would not have your own character. I don’t see that. One has the ability to get to know many qualities of life with the help of different groups of people. It is important that you can also feel comfortable. In this state, one can still have enough personal flow into the group and be an enrichment for them.
