Why do cell phones have so little memory when SD cards are so cheap?

Hello, cell phones often only have 64 or 128 GB of storage. But a 256 GB SD card, for example, only costs around €30.

Or does it not work like that?

First of all, lower storage can save production costs, offer different variants or simply meet the needs of customers (because no longer needed).

Then no SD card is installed in a mobile phone, but an eMMC or UFS memory. You can look at the differences. If you can save 50 ct between a 128 GB and a 256 GB memory, for example, as a manufacturer, you can calculate the savings with millions of devices.

128GB are not much for a smartphone.

You could also upgrade it if you like it. Zb to 256 GB

Smartphones Need much less memory than Pc’s. with 128 GB (I have zb so much) you can save countless images and everything possible.

Otherwise, simply External Use hard disk. 🙂

For example, SD cards cannot be compared with internal memory (usually UFS or eMMC) in terms of speed and performance. If your entire mobile operating system would only run from an SD card, you would see a lot of loading animations (if any).

In addition, 128 GB mMs are completely sufficient. There are models with larger internal storage.

The SD cards in smartphones are intended to store images or the like on them, but not data that must be retrieved constantly and quickly.

Why do mobile phones have so little memory when SD cards are so cheap?

Because with cheap smartphones the price for storage has relatively great influence on production costs and if you pack too much, you can no longer milk the customers with absurd supplements for the storage

256GB UFS storage costs, for example, currently about $16 on the spot market

Then buy a memory card.

Companies want to keep mobile phones as cheap as possible.

I’ve been getting loose with 64GB for years and would pay for more storage I don’t need at all

Sd card so is weak

but joa man will stop money

you want to pay 50€ at Pc + 1Tb
if you want to pay at Aplle +1Tb you have to pay 800-2000€

With most mobile phones you can’t use memory cards anymore.

Quite the opposite. Modern smartphones usually always have space for a memory card.

I would prefer a USB stick (with USB-C port). Possibly small design so that it does not break down so easily (or even worse anything in the bush breaks or tears).

But must also take an extra device

Well, you’ve had bad luck. Nevertheless, an external hard drive is always possible.

Even with Samsung this is not possible

Nope that wasn’t even, still like that. If you don’t have an IPhone right now, that’s not a problem. Otherwise use external hard drive. 🙂
