I'm new to Discord and wanted to upload a picture, but the box is gray. How can I change this?

This must be done by the server admin.
Maybe you did not allow the Discord app to access your photo gallery:
-> Settings -> to Discord -> give the permissions
Or the channel in which you write has disabled uploading of files but as far as I know comes then no other message
