If you really want to install Windows 10 on External SSD and it is not possible, then close the SSD to other computers. Install to other computers first to VirtualBox, and first view the Virtualbox directly accesses SSD (not as a virtual disk). And from there you try to install Windows 10. And when the installation is complete, you will close the SSD to your laptop and see if it also leaves USB boats. That’s all you can do. I hope that your laptop has at least USB 3.0 because otherwise you will have next problem regarding charging time.

Instead of external SSD, I would recommend internal SSD, because they are not only more compatible but also faster. I would use external SSD for virtual machines.

To enable VirtualBox access to an external hard drive, you need to add it as an advanced hard drive. Follow these steps:

  1. Open VirtualBox and select the virtual machine you want to add the external hard drive.
  2. Click “Advanced” and select “Add Advanced Hard Drive” from the drop-down menu.
  3. Select “Use Existing Hard Drive” and navigate to the external hard drive you want to add.
  4. Click “OK” to add the external hard drive to the virtual machine.
  5. Start the virtual machine and check if the external hard drive is detected.

Note: Make sure that the external hard drive is formatted in NTFS or FAT32 format, as other formats may not be supported by VirtualBox.

Who can read is clearly in advantage.

Who is to read to Faul, bad luck.

also small info next door. MS windoof 10 and 11 are not suitable as mobile operating systems. A SSD to USB symbolizes this because you can connect it to many similar PC systems.

Either take the SSD, put it in the PC and install the MS Windoof there or leave it.

Alternative that it also allows –> Linux Distribution, is free faster, more stable and easier. There are also Linux Live USB sticks that you can create with iss for free.

Yes, but you have to do without some software under Linux. Switching to Linux is only worthwhile when you only use software that gives for Linux. For Windows users who also use many programs and games that are compatible only for Windows, Linux is not so happy. Of course there are still 2 on Linux because of how to run Windows programs from there. Either with WineHQ or virtual machine. Both have pre- and post-parts. At WineHQ you have the advantage of saving more perfomance. Disadvantage: Many programs don’t run 100% free of immigrants and you have to count on more malfunction and more bugs. Therefore, virtual machine would be the advantage that you do not have a bug and malfunction from there, for that you do not have such great performance, and would not use Virtual Machine as a high-end production until you use hell machine.

Hello

That’s what it says in the error message:

The installation on disks connected via USB or IEEE Fire Wire is not supported.

What is there to understand?

The standard Windows installation is only possible on internally connected data carriers.

Not without tricks. There was sometimes Windows to go, a way to create a Windows Live system, on USB disks, but the project has apparently stopped Microsoft and also Windows to go was not a full Windows installation and does not completely replace it.

Connect the SSD in a PC internally, then install Windows on it and then install the SSD back into the external USB enclosure to boot Windows from it will not work either. If an internally completely created Windows installation is booted via USB, then the start will cancel with your error message that the System32\config\… file cannot be found. This is because the NT OS Kernel, as soon as he takes up his work, is the first to load a hard disk host adapter driver, along with a file system driver, to be able to access an internally connected hard disk to drive Windows further. And that’s the problem, because at this point no USB drivers are loaded so that the NT Kernel can’t access the external hard drive to boot.

For this, the Windows Registry of a “preinstalled” Windows would have to be manipulated so that a USB port driver is first loaded. Then a “preinstalled” Windows can theoretically also be booted via USB. However, you can only use such a manipulated Windows installation on the computer where it was created. To other hardware, an activated Windows license is deactivated and when hardware is changed, new drivers must be installed every time. This is nix for a productive operation, which is just what to experiment.

As a mobile SSD to always have my data (settings, apps, files, users, operating system,…) and to be able to use them mobile

Forget about this project, it’ll be nix. Microsoft has also advanced a bar for licensing reasons. You can also use your data as a mobile without dragging a fully equipped operating system with you.

Hello,

you cannot install Win10/11 via USB.

You already need a SATA or NVMe data storage.

EXAMPLES:

https://www.amazon.de/Crucial-MX500MX500MX500SSD1-500GB-Internal/dp/B0786QNS9B/ref=sr_1_2_sspa

https://www.amazon.de/Crucial-PCIe-Gen3-Internal-3500MB/dp/B0B25LZGGW/ref=sr_1_2_sspa

Then you can remove the data memory and complete it with a USB3 adapter.

Then a PC starts to measure even via USB.
But that’s only for testing!!

S-ATA and NVMe are both SSD hard drives. S-ATA are the older plates (with data cable and power cable) the NVMe’s are the newer ones. (no more cables, they are only plugged)

If you stand there, don’t go via USB or IEEE 1394

If you are standing there on external hard drives/flash disc you cannot install!

It must be internally installed or not connected with USB cable!

Has it a CD-ROM drive to expand without using an adapter to plug the ssd

Once made me smart either Windows to Go or Systemklon feature with EaseUS Todo Backup would go to external SSD!

You don’t have to get the case any other chance and every case goes on there are no instructions on Youtube? Ever looked?

You need to use Windows 10 to go – and that has been disabled by MS for ages.
