Why are there so many fires and power outages lately?

Lately, I've been reading a lot about fires. Most recently, the one at Hörmann in Steinhagen.

I keep reading about power outages!

Why are there apparently so many fires and power outages lately?

There seems to be something wrong with your perception.

Today, fires are much more rare than before.
Even rare big fires, since fires are discovered a) earlier today (e.g. by smoke detectors and fire alarm systems), b) the fire brigade can be alarmed very quickly thanks to Handy & Co and c) is then also very fast on site. So, fortunately, fires can be deleted very often before they develop into a big fire.

Of course there are still fires and big fires. It can’t be avoided. For example, triggers can be a technical defect, a negligent or intentional arson – and rarely a “natural” cause (blitzschlag, chemical reaction, etc.).

The reason for fires is always changing. In the past, for example, there were many fires through self-ignition in agriculture or through open fire (stove, oven, fireplace) in houses and apartments.
Today, this is rarely happening. Technical defects with fire sequence, for example batteries and chargers, frequently occur for this purpose.

Overall, the number of fires in the last approx. 20 years remained roughly the same (about 200,000 to 220,000 fires per year in Germany).

And as regards power failures: Here, too, I can’t make an increase. Regionally, the more or less good condition of the power grid can play a role (e.g. overland lines are more prone than underground lines). However, the consequences are becoming more and more dramatic. For more than ever we depend on electricity. Up to 20 years ago, for example, electricity failure was still possible. This isn’t happening today. And we are more and more dependent on computers that, of course, also need electricity.

Buildings are now burning much less than they used to, you’re deceived. In forest, land and vegitation fires, this is somewhat different due to climate change, where the risk is rising.

I cannot confirm regular power failures.

Yes, unfortunately, this is probably due to the much-proclaimed climate change. As a result of the resulting weather phenomena, increased drought and storms occur. Unfortunately, the signs are no longer to deny.

I feel the same. I also feel that there are more and more fires. Apartment fires and also large companies or landmarks. I would be interested to see if it was created by arson, or other. When I think about housing fires, that’s because many migrants in the apartment do barbecues and much more dangerous what these fires can trigger.

Fires and power failures have different causes.
Every single case is unique.

In very cold winters and in poor energy supply (e.g. war areas)
but there are both more:
People make fires in fire places that are never needed or are poorly serviced;
they switch on electric furnaces which are forgotten or are too close to combustible objects and can also overload the power grid.

Either sabotage or the buildings no longer meet the current fire protection standards as in the following video:
