Why are the Star Wars prequels so criticized?
Personally, I love the prequels, probably because I grew up with them?
I love the story between Padme and Anakin, even if it seems a bit rushed and the dialogue isn't the best. However, if you look at the deleted scenes of the two, the love story makes more sense.
What is your opinion?
There are many reasons for it.
The humor is too silly / stupid. The CGI looks in places like CGI and not like a real film.
A lot of potential was given away from storywriting. Especially from the friendship between Anakin and Kenobi almost nothing is shown. Just in episode 3. And that has been too little for many. You see them a lot more fighting instead. Anakin was also not a hero or strong leader, but an unstable teenager. Unfortunately, all this doesn't fit as well as Kenobi describes in the OT.
There was too much "political language" while too little political contexts were simply explained. That can be quite confusing.
The love story is a lot of fun. And it doesn't make any sense that Anakin is somehow 10 years younger in episode 1. And in episode 2, he's a grown-up guy while Padme is apparently not aging a day.
And the films also have problems with voltage arcs and pacing. It probably doesn't bother a SW fan. But isn't that great for the mainstream.
Unfortunately, there was no good explanation or work-up for the construction and replacement of a whole clone army. Everyone understands what Lucas did. He just let the figures do as if the war was so urgent that the Jedi simply accepted it. But you can't write a good story like that. This is a huge plot hole.
And making things like Yoda a flummi-like warrior who actually stands for wisdom and peace, just to stage a struggle that it would not have used in terms of history, was not the best decision now either.
Many of them are retrieved or made better in TCW. But of course it would have been better to make it right in the movies.
For me personally, Kenobi, Darth Maul, Count Dooku, Palpatine, the music and the world building were good. The rest was moderate to bad.
I'm with you, I like all the movies! My feeling is that the latest trilogy is always criticized. When the Prequels were the latest ones, some were terribly attracted to everything possible, including the actors, and now a huge hype arises when, for example, Anakin and Obi-Wan/Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor return, because many become nostalgic and the films later did not find so bad. Instead, the sequels are now totally in criticism of what was not good, but I assume that will change in 10-20 years.
Many find, I think, something new is always stupid and you must not forget that people are always louder and louder than they just say, yes good movie, I like”… In this respect, simply form a separate opinion!
I think you might be right, I don't think the sequels are so good… look what I'm saying in 20 years.
Well, I think that's a little related to what you grew up. I know many who grew up with the Prequels, who celebrate the Prequels.
I grew up with the original trilogy and for me these are the only true Star Wars films. That is, I think, above all, that the style is quite different. The original trilogy is a bit calmer and the humor comes more subtle. With the Prequels everything is much more colorful, faster and the humor is more concise, in the case of Jar Jar Binks even quite clamour, which makes the movies look kindly.
But in the end, this is just a matter of taste and if you like the prequels, that's good. I would give a little to the idea of others (for example as old bags like me 😉).
So I definitely like the prequels too. I honestly didn't get that the prequels were criticized so much, but there are definitely people who know each other better in the Star Wars universe than I and who probably know more why it is.
On Reddit everything is so bad that the prequels are supposed to be so bad.
Part I: Too much politics
Part II: kitschy and padme is not aged, Battle of Geonosism does good again
Part III: there is nothing negative from my side
for Episode 1 I'm right to you. The story between Padme and Anakin in part 2 doesn't bother me, but maybe doesn't fit well in Star Wars, which is why I give you the right thing. Nevertheless, I like the story between the two and the padme is barely aged is perhaps not logical, but I have not.
Jar jar doesn't like anyone.
