Why are the Simpsons predictions so often correct?

Most people say it's because there are so many episodes, and the probability that something will come true is higher than with fewer episodes. However, that's quite a lot of predictions, like the episode with the VT glasses, where there hadn't been anything like that yet, or with Apple. There are fewer or even no such things in other series.
