Why are so many films from the 1930s not available online?

I think that's a real shame. I'm interested in such films, but almost all of them are unavailable.

I also find it a pity that they are offered so rarely. Amazon offers some movies for 4€ rental fee, or some classics are also available on Blu-Ray.

However, I have often had to resort to illegal providers, whose offer has always been a bit better in the past than the usual streaming provider.

Just guessing.

In addition to the step of digitizing old films, I assume that companies here could possibly start from a generational discussion between streaming services as media platforms for younger people and old films as representation media for past visual habits. In addition, the acquisition of licences could be more difficult. Another assumption could be the film resolution and resolution transfer in relation to modern devices.

With a US VPN, you could possibly. Subscribe to the Criterion Channel. Also on YouTube one often finds one or other old movie.

Maybe it was because almost nobody knows black is watching movies. But youtube has to find some older movies.

It’s difficult. Maybe because there was no internet yet?
