Why am I suddenly charged income tax?
Hello,
I work as a student employee and have never had to pay any income tax.
Last month, however, I earned a little more than usual, and suddenly, income tax was deducted from my income. Now I'm wondering how much I can earn per month without having to pay income tax.
I am in tax class 1 and normally earn between €750-950 gross without having to pay any income tax.
Last month I earned €1,400 gross and income tax was deducted from my salary.
It's going to deduct you from the amount you've apparently earned right now. For from a certain height, it becomes due.
At more than €1360, wage tax is charged.

It will be deducted from 1350 euros. I can't have been much with you.
If you want the money back, give a tax return at the end of the year.
When do I not have to pay tax?
When will the wage tax be due? You have to pay wage tax as soon as your income is above the basic amount . The basic amount for single persons is EUR 10,908 in 2023, for joint spouses of EUR 21,816. This allowance is payable to each taxpayer and secures the minimum of existence.
There is still a lack of a worker's allowance of €1,230 and the basic allowance is currently €11,604 in 2024; ergo selection minimum. 12,834€ in 2024 income tax-free !
That's right. From a certain amount, wage tax is payable, which is completely normal.
For singles with grade 1 from 1360€ Gross wages keep wages tax!
As soon as you earn more than 967 (2024), you will be liable for pay tax, but you can get it back through tax clarification.
Only at over 1,300 €.

What surprises me is that I also earned €990 gross in 2023 without having to pay a wage tax.
2021 I even earned 1090 € without pay tax.
