Why am I crying for a girl I don't know?

You may have heard about the accident on Rügen. A young 14-year-old girl was out riding with friends. Unfortunately, she didn't survive the ride. She was riding at the back of the group. A man came up behind her on his tractor with a cultivator on the trailer. When the tractor reached the level of the group, the girl's horse began to rear. She lost the same weight and fell directly in front of the trailer, where it ran over her. She sustained severe injuries and died at the scene. I still don't know whether she was run over by the trailer's wheels or not. (Does anyone know?)

The whole thing happened on August 20, 2024. I was on vacation. My parents and I were driving when it was mentioned on the radio. I was so shocked and touched that I didn't speak for the rest of the trip. I had to hold back the tears. While I was still in the car, I looked up the accident on the internet and read all the articles there were about it. About two days later, I was on TikTok when a video of the accident came up. (There was simply a screenshot of the article on the internet in the video.) I started crying again. Today we are back home and every time I think about this accident and the girl, I start crying. For me it is as if one of my best friends has died. But it is not like that. I didn't know this girl and yet I am crying for her.

Why do I start crying when I think about it even though I didn't know her?
